The big announcements were made on Saturday, 29 February, with a large crowd attending the opening ceremony. Julian Bowron, former Director of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and current Chair of the GalleriesWest, officially opened the exhibition and representatives from South32 Worsley Alumina, Rotary Club of Collie and Collie Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank presented their awards. Attending the event was also a representative from Synergy that sponsored the KID-entity – the children’s division of the CAP 2020. The People’s Choice Award, sponsored by the Whispering Pines B&B, will be awarded to the winner at the end of the exhibition.
The following prizes were awarded to the winners.
First Prize – “Ranges Around Ross River NT” by Mary-Lynne Stratton
Rotary Prize A – “ES+ID” by Peteris Ciemitis
Rotary Prize B – “Bedhan Lag: Land of the Kalwalagal” by Brian Robinson
South 32 Prize (Best Western Australian Art Award) – “Breath” by Olga Cironis
Canberra-based judge, Professor Sasha Grishin, presented “Highly Commended” certificates to the following artists:
“Loose Threads and Lots of Gaps” by Moya Cole
“Napoleon in Exile” by Rew Hanks
“Old Beverley Road” by Mikaela Castledine
“Dallas” by Emi Ninoseki
“Shred” by Alan Morrison
The Packers’ Prize voted on by nine people involved in the hanging of the exhibition was awarded to “Miss Priya Premkumar” by Cameron Richards.
