The Collie Gallery Group was successful in its application for registration as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.
A special resolution was passed at a Special General Meeting in July to change the Rules of the Association to ensure surplus assets are transferred to another charitable organisation with similar objects in the event of the gallery group winding up.
This allows the gallery to then apply to the Australian Taxation Office to obtain Deductible Gift Recipient status so that donations, gifts and bequests can be tax deductible for donors.
This application can be made once the gallery is operational, which is scheduled for early 2015.
