Opening of Gifts from the Bush and Beach

The exhibition of watercolours by Sue Kalab, Gifts from the Bush and Beach, opened on Saturday, 28 July. The opening was attended by a large group of people excited to see stunning works that mainly depict Australian nature and wildlife. As an artist with a fascination for birds, shells and natural scenery, in general, Sue truly captures the diversity of Australian wildlife – magpies, black swans, Siberian wader-birds, etc.

Trudi Curran, Chairperson of the Collie Gallery Group, was the first speaker who welcomed the audience and introduced the guest speaker, Johnny Prefumo. Johnny gave an interesting talk playing sound of different birds and sharing his experiences with the audience. Sue also gave a short talk to formally open her exhibition that will run for six weeks. Also attending the event and representing the City of Bunbury was Councillor Brendan Kelly whose presence enriched the gathering.

A number of the Gallery Volunteers attended an Artist Talk on Friday, 27 July, when Sue explained about her works and how she was inspired by nature.

The exhibition, including 28 wonderful paintings, some nests and shells, and a short video about the artist, will be open 10am-4pm, Thursdays through Mondays until 9 September.
