Regional Galleries Forum

The Regional Galleries Forum was held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on the 4th November. The forum was attended by directors and managers of regional art galleries as well as by individual artists and curators.

The forum began by a few speeches that discussed different ways of gallery management among other things. The presence of Colin Walker from the Department of Culture and the Arts was particularly important as he could answer most of the questions that were raised by participants and communicate the success of the forum to the Department of Culture and the Arts.

The Art on the Move organizers of the forum then divided participants into four discussion groups that examined four major areas of need for the regional galleries to gather a pool of information to be used later. Each participant was asked to highlight five major areas that were of greater significance to them. A number of managers of regional art galleries then volunteered to form a working group that would aim at forming a Regional Galleries Society in the future. Julian Bowron, Director of the Bunbury Art Galleries, and Diana McGirr, ArtGeo Complex Coordinator, said that BRAG and ArtGeo had formed a great network with the Collie Art Gallery in the South West.
