A Brief History

The Collie Art Gallery has once again launched one of regional Australia’s richest art prizes, following the success of the inaugural 2018 edition, and then the 2020 edition; both of which drew in more than 500 entries nationally – and attracted hundreds of visitors to the town.

Collie Art Gallery’s $50,000 Collie Art Prize (CAP2023) is one of regional Australia’s richest individual art prizes, and forms part of the coal mining town’s push to diversify its economy into tourism and other industries.

The Gallery is now calling on artists throughout the country to begin working on their pieces to address the theme of ‘Identity’ with entries opening 11 October 2022 and closing 9 December 2022. The winner and runners up will be announced at a gala event on 04 March 2023.

In response to the phenomenal success of the first two Collie Art Prizes we are pleased to announce that South 32 Worsley Alumina will continue to support in sponsoring the Best Western Australian Artist Award in 2023, which entails a generous cash prize plus a future exhibition at the gallery to the value of $1,000.

Significant operational funding has been forthcoming from the Coal Miners’ Welfare Board of Collie, Synergy and a Packers’ Prize is being funded by generous donations from the Hon Jodie Hanns, MLA, and Hon Dr Steve Thomas MLC.

Synergy is also sponsoring a youth section entitled Kid-Entity which will display alongside the major event.
