Wall install off to a running start

Construction workers are on the job installing state-of-the-art external wall cladding on the front and rear of the new art gallery.

The aluminium composite panels complement the natural beauty and character of the rammed earth walls and the simplicity of Zincalume steel sheeting. The panels offer extraordinary flatness and rigidity, excellent formability, low weight and outstanding weather and corrosion resistance. Their finely textured aluminium surfaces scatter light for a close-up visual effect, while retaining the look and lustre of smooth aluminium from afar.

Although there was a delay in the delivery of the aluminium composite panels, the construction completion scheduled for early 2015 is expected to be impacted.

The Shire of Collie is forging ahead with detailed design for vehicle and pedestrian access to the gallery as well as an upgrade to adjacent parking in the former Harvey Street area.

Meanwhile, Brookfield Rail is progressing with the upgrade to the level railway crossing that will ultimately connect the central park with the gallery.

The gallery is expected to be complete in the first quarter 2015 for handover to the Collie Gallery Group for final fit-out and preparation for opening in April.

Preparations are already well underway for the first year of programs and events.
