The Collie Art Gallery’s first survey-style exhibition Watch this Space certainly didn’t disappoint, with a diverse display of talent and creativity on show. More than 70 works from 35 talented artists are on show, including paintings, drawing, woodwork, sculpture and textiles.
Guests came from as far as Bridgetown for the opening night, where prizes and commendations were awarded by Bunbury Regional Art Galleries Director Julian Bowron thanks to Wanda Bird from Whispering Pines, Lorraine van Empel, from Chook Scraps along with Mick Murray MLA, who generously contributed a total of $700 in prize money.
Sarah Smith’s stunning pencil portrait, “Mark”, won first prize, while second prize was awarded to another Collie artist Connor Spencer.
It was a particularly proud moment for Trudi Curran, Collie Art Gallery Group Chairman and head of visual arts at Collie Senior High School, who said both of the award winners were local, young emerging artists who went to school in Collie and studied art at the high school.
Watch this Space is on show 10am-4pm, Thursdays-Mondays until 17 July 2016.
